Shades of Grey

Source: http://asmediabykgk.blogspot.com/

I woke up early this morning. As usual, this morning was no different than any other. It was still dark and I picked up my phone to see the time and today’s schedule. As I was browsing through the schedule, I noticed that there was a strange relaxed feeling while looking at my phone. I rubbed my eyes to witness the destruction of my phone’s true colour display turn into a monochromatic display. I might have dropped it in my sleep, I thanked God that it didn't shatter the screen.

The sun hadn’t risen yet, it was still dark. I wasn’t ready to leave my bed. Soon early morning thoughts started to creep in. I wondered what would happen if everyone woke up to find themselves to be completely colour blind. The first thing that came to my mind was about companies fighting for pixels and racing for advanced displays. No one would care for TVs, monitors, smartwatches, and mainly mobile displays. Products with digital displays will become a tad cheaper than they are now. They will focus more on the performance, backup and audio. The apps will start working for their actual cause and not care much for the graphics.

People on the roads will face chaos, as traffic lights will be incomprehensible. Electrical wires would no more make sense. We would love to stay in dark rather than risking our lives repairing colour coded wires. While some costly paintings may lose a little value, but I am sure all paint & dye companies will become bankrupt. Pink will no longer belong to girls and the same goes for blue for boys. No one would care for the colour of your dress. Nobody would gift flowers to their loved ones. I am pretty sure that children chasing colourful butterflies would be bored. They might also never go crazy over the box of colourful crayons either. That really sounds so boring!

But I can see women keeping the makeup products industry alive and still blooming. People still can’t stop themselves pouting and posing for photographs. Photographers will enjoy running their businesses. The fashion industry will adjust itself, while we might never see solid coloured clothes but prints and patterns will be in vogue. Demand for flowers will not decrease as people will not stop putting perfumes on themselves. On the other side, the film industry might get slow in the beginning but eventually, will take momentum at some point of time in future. The truth is we love movies, be it black & white we cannot stay away from them.

There might be many things that we won’t be able to appreciate with the help of our visual sensory system. But, there is no way we can stop listening to music, sing songs, or dance to our favourite numbers. We might not paint but we would still love to sketch with pencils. Rainbows might not be beautiful anymore but we would still love to witness the feel of beautiful sunrises from our balconies and the sunsets from our favourite beaches.

Initially, we will notice it, whine about it and later hate it. But, we will never cease to live with it. Life would teach us new ways. We as humans would gradually adapt to those changes, and find our way back to our happy lives. Eventually, like the most essential things on this planet — air and water, love will also always remain colourless.
